Well I have finally settled into Harrow and it's been quite kewl. Uni life is pretty awesome...well its been very chilled out this week (freshers)..and no I have't been getting drunk (I dont drink alcohol) but I've been chillin out and gettin to know my flatmates and other students...
My room defo feels more homely...lots of colour everywhere...and I've just brought some of my MDG art project to stick up in my room!! I am going to print out some photos in a bit...coz I have like empty photo frames in my room...hehe...oops!
Other than that everything is kewl..I'm looking fwd to starting my 1st mini project tomorrow.
Yesterday I took part at the 'Time to Go' Demonstation in Manchester which was pretty awesome..I travelled with my family by coach with the Birmingham Stop the War Coalition Group and Respect Party candidate Salma Yaqoob. There were like thousands of ppl who came from all over the country (1000 ppl frm Scotland, ppl who cycled across the Pennines, ppl who walked...) Amazing really! It was such a great atmosphere and you really get into it..hehe I know I was yelling at the top of my voice! I'm glad I participated in it!
Anywayz i'm off for a nap now...as i feel soooo tired from this week!
peace,

Gravity~Embrace
|
This post is a bit random...but came across this song which I haven't heard in yonks and I love it sooo much! It's by a fadabulous band called Embrace - although the track was written by Chris Martin (Coldplay!)
Honey, It's been a long time coming
And I can't stop now
Such a long time running
And I can't stop now
Do you hear my heart beating
Can you hear that sound
Cause I can't stop thinking
And I don't look down
And then I looked up at the sun
And I could see
Oh the way that gravity turns for you and me
And then I looked up at the sky and saw the sun
And the way that gravity pulls on everyone, on everyone
Baby, It's been a long time waiting
Such a long, long time
And I can't stop smiling
No I can't stop now
And do you hear my heart beating
Ah can you hear that sound
Cause I can't help crying
And I won't look down
And then I looked up at the sun and I could see
Oh the way that gravity turns on you and me
And then I looked up at the sun and saw the sky
And the way that gravity pulls on you and I, on you and I
Can you hear my heart beating
Can you hear that sound
Cause I can't help crying
And I wont look down

Artsfest was awesome!
|
At the weekend, I went to Artsfest which took place in Birmingham. It's like the largest free arts festival in the UK which was pretty rockin'! It took place from Fri 8th - Sun 10th Sept. I think it's been going on for a few years now....
Lol..I'm just readin that above n it's sounds so formal..hehe. Yeah so decided to go there with a friend...was kinda odd coz it was like the 1st saturday I'd had off in like 3 months!
It was literally jampacked full of events - Marcia n I managed to wonder around for a bit then we were drawn to the BBC Blast Tour Truck. It was pretty kewl coz Blast is designed to bring out the creativity in youth and promote it further.
Anywayz yeah my mate and I decided to drop in on the Eco Fashion Workshop which is where you design and construct an item from scraps of material, clothing, recycleable sources...etc...it felt really weird because we both haven't done much art in the hols...but it was an awesome way to get back into it. We practically spent all day there and got tlkn to a few ppl - a guy from The Hemp Clothing Company and a designer who works with the Ethical Fashion Forum....groovy!
We were lucky enough to get our work uploaded onto the website...do check it out!
http://www.bbc.co.uk/apps/ifl/blast/art/showcase/competition/gallery/queryengine?page=1&pagesize=20&attrib_1=OBJ_THEME&oper_1=eq&val_1_1=Eco-fashion&sort_1=SUBMITDATE&sortsense_1=DESC&cacheVar=4
(hehe mine is the 2nd photo on the 2nd line and marcia's is the last one on the 1st line! )
Afterwards we checked out sum live music which was incredible...it was really really great stuff!
We both really enjoyed ourselves and it was wikid meeting up with her before I head down to London....
Yeah I've almost finished packing - it's jus I've got a lotta art materials and books n wrk ...infact I have more of that then my own personal belongings! haha. Well I really can't wait...although I am slightly nervous I'm more excited! Anywayz I'll be back home next Thurs/Fri...coz I'm hoping to go to the Labour Conference Protest Thingamajig in Manchester which I'm looking forward too!...plus Ramadan starts at the weekend...so will be nice to be with family....
Ritey O...
Im off..wanna finish packing!
Peace Out,
Sara xxx

I'm back!
|
Wow...I ain't blogged on here for yonks!
I have actually been super duper busy the past few weeks.
Since my summer vacation started I have been working extra hours at J.Lewis. So yeah I was basically occupied from Monday - Thursday and then Saturday, so not much free time. Fridays would be my chill out/getting jobs done day and Sundays I'd be visiting my nan and extended family. LOL and when I had freetime, I had to squeeze in dance practice as my cousins, sister and I were to perform a 'Ludi' dance at my uncle's wedding.
The summer was pretty jampacked and it's be pretty awesome!
My uncle got married, so I was down in London during the second weekend of August. It was really nice and good fun. The dance went well although we were all really really nervous...hehe. My sister cracked me up - for one part of the dance she forgot a part and ended up standing there like a wally! It was really funny...lol. It was kewl spending time with the WHOLE family...and our family is HUGE...when everyone gets together it's such a laugh!Anyways, the three days were packed full of asian music and dancing and meeting and greeting relatives we had't seen in ages!
On Monday, my sis, emma - a friend of ours and I had to travel straight from London to Gloucester. As we were part of the team for the Voices for Change International Summer School. Basically I went along for the week as a crew member to cover my sister's shifts, as she had NUS training for the week. It was an aweseome experience and although only 70 participants turned up out of the expected 130 (due to heathrow airport n visas being declined they couldnt make it). The environment was just great as I think camping brought us all together. The food was delicious as it was cooked fresh on site by a vegetarian catering company -hehe thanks to them I am now an offical Houmous lover...yummy!!It was also fun working as part of a team and developing certain skills and making new friends. I loved it. The participants were very friendly and just amazing! I mean I didn't even think I would facilitate any sessions but I was asked to hold 2 Voices Sessions which went extremely well. Personally for me it boosted my confidence further which just felt great! Although I left on the Friday, I enjoyed my time there and it was another fantastic event that I had been part of.
I came back home to Solihull...eventually as my train from Birmingham New St to International was delayed by half an hour....so I was pretty knackered by the time I got home. All I wanted to do was go to sleep...and get up in time for work the next day..
So yeh Saturday I was back at work....and then Sunday I went with some of my family to another wedding (well the mehndi) - friend of my sister and I which was really nice. It was pretty kewl as we had to bring the groom in light candles and throw petals to celebrate. Then we brought the bride to be in...which was also very kewl...Soon after that I had to perform a dance again...I was a little less nervous than the last dance but it went well again :S...hehe
Yep...Monday - Thursday I was working extra hours and then Friday my sis came back from VFC. In the evening we went to attend Mehwish's wedding. It was sooo sweet and she looked so pretty...and they had these really kewl lights as part of the background that changed colour...(I sound like a kid I know but it was awesome!)I really enjoyed the wedding...it was different as it was much more simpler than my uncle's wedding.
Then back home and sleep..and back to work on Saturday...I did eventually catch up on my sleep which was good. I just felt really exhausted after I got back from VFC as it was just busy non-stop...
More recently though I quit my part time job..as I wasn't able to get a transfer to a London Branch and also because the managers in my department caused a lot of problems for me...I was really upset to go (not boo hoo, im gonna cry) but just that I made some really good friends there...but we all promised to keep in touch so no excuses there!!
Since then I have been chilling out, and packing things for uni and hangin out with friends...
It's so close now..and I'm really excited. I am moving down to London...well Harrow, Middlesex next Saturday and I can't wait!!! Wooo...I am really looking forward to making new friends and also getting stuck into my course and developing political art!!
Peace out for now...im off to rollerblade :)

Last nite...I saw THE STROKES in Hyde Park!
|
Last nite was aaaaaaammmmazing!
I'm glad I went...and I luuuuuurve THE STROKES (Jules' sexy voice and Fab is soooooo hot!) haha...they put on a fantastic show and yeah....lol..i still cant get over it.
I have been waiting sooooo long to see them and yay...I got to! I was trying to get real near the stage..I'd say I was about 6-7 rows from it...but it was tight...I was literally squashed between 2 couples whilst my boring sis was way back...but yeh got some kewl photos (can make out the members of the band!) I thought it was kewl...coz the majority of the songs they played were from their 1st album - Is this it? and I love that album...jus coz that how I 1st heard of them....and they also played the almighty Reptilia and Juicebox....was wikid...really really wikid!
I got some pics which I'll defo put on my msn blog..so be sure to check them out...
Oh yeh...only 3 days til my bday!! Yay!
Peace

|
I was stressing a wee bit last nite...I was hoping that I would just scrape a pass...coz I know towards the end I was frantically cramming things into my sketchbook and was up all nite!
So...yeah Terry called me in and was like you've got a merit! ...haha I seriously thought he was joking...I was like are you sure?....can you check again?...lol...He knew I was surprise...coz I couldnt believe it myself...but he was pleased with the development of this project. I was as well....but..I know I defo have to sort our my time management for uni..lol...seriously I do! I mean it starts off well then towards the end it dips really low!...ah well
Im so glad its over..in a way...but then I will miss Bournville..its such a quiet, relaxing safe place to be.
Blog later...gotta run

what a week...
|
Heyy...
Since I last blogged on here...everything has been pretty chilled out I guess...hmm what have i been upto?
I went to the opening of the foundation course exhibition on monday which was really good. It was way too hot plus with a lotta ppl being inside the building and too little space...felt claustrophobic. I really enjoyed it though. On the Tuesday I met up with Marcia and we decided to go to the movies. My mate JJ was working there which was kewl so we got chatting for a while...(JJ let us in for free which was very nice of him!) Marcia and I decided to watch United 93 which was about 9/11.
I have to say it was a very intense film and also quite interesting. I remember reading that families of the victims of 9/11 had input into the film. Indeed it was a very moving and emotional film. I felt myself coming to tears when I watched the passengers on board the 4th plane use the aeroplane phone to call their families to say 'goodbye' and 'I love you'. It was sad. It was interesting though...if the film is almost 100% true about the actions of the military...because they were portrayed negatively. They did screw up...they knew from earlier signs that there was a hijacked plane...but they didn't act upon it until they thought they had sufficient information. Also when president bush decided to act upon the devasting news...it was way too late. They terminated all international flights and gave military orders by 12.08pm...when all four planes had crashed by 10.30pm..(I think)...I have been thinking...I know there isn't much to see at ground zero..but I would like to pay my respect to all those ppl whose lives were taken on September 11th 2001.
************************************************************
After the movie, Marcia and I headed to Bournville as we had to invigilate the Fine Art rooms. I met Anna who sed she was invigilating the rooms as well...Guess what? We had been there for about 15 mins...when I thought I'd go and look at the tutorial times...for the results. I also looked at the invigilation sheet and realised that Terry had re-written another one and obviously not informed us! It said that Marcia and I were supposed to invigilate on Wednesday! I was pissed off to be honest..lol I just thought what a wasted journey! So...I thought it's pointless with 3 of us invigilating so one of us whould go home and come back tomorrow...well the other 2 couldnt make Wednesday...so I went home.
Wednesday came..lol...and just as I was making my way to Bournville I meet my sister walking up the road..who was coming to view the exhibition too. I had to go because I was running late already...so she met me there...along with my mom and her friends Linda and Sue. It was pretty quiet...when I got there. I thought I would really enjoy it...haha..well I did enjoy looking at everyone's work...but there was this one video piece accompanied by music...classical music to be specific...yeah it was calming and relaxing but after 30 mins it was doing my head in! Seriously it gave me a really bad headache! I was just looking forward to going home! It was kewl though...afterwards we went to Linda and Sue's house for a while...and it was really nice coz they cooked a few things and we had a good chat...
Thursday...oooh yeah..haha. I was literally cleaning my room from 9am - 11pm. I gave my room a thorough clean actually..cleaned all the skirting boards.. hoovered behind my bed..wiped and dusted my windowsills, shelves, wardrobe...yup so its brand spanking new! All of my art junk has been sorted...recycled a lot of stuff in the recycling box...pretty much everything is done i guess...so not much prep to do for uni. One job I could do is have a clear out of my wardrobe and donate stuff to charity...hmmm that could be a job for tomorrow!
Friday...I finished off the cleaning and chilled for the day.
Saturday was at work then went to my nan's which was fun. I have a job for my uncle's wedding which is taking place in London this summer. I have to make the Mehndi trays/plates for the Mehndi...which actually seems like a lotta fun!
Today I was at work...but only because I owe them a day because I took some time off to work on my art...it was good fun seeing the Sunday ppl..Rachel and Neesha make me laugh so much! It was so funny today!
Hmm...other news oooh yeah I got a place on the Voices for Change Summer School...I was really happy because I thought I submitted a crap application and wouldn't be offered a place...but yeah I'm sorta in. The problem is the money! I kinda don't have any at the moment...hence why I need to work extra hours...oh the fun. But I was deciding on a lotta things really...like this summer I was also up for starting my driving lessons...but if I'm honest I can't afford driving lessons and summer school. I know driving lessons can wait...and I don't really wanna learn how to drive..it really doesnt interest me at all (my mom keeps going on at me to learn while im still young...so im still thinking about it...i mean i could dedicate my summer to learnin how to drive coz i wont be up to much else apart from kick starting the fairtrade campaign and extra hours...) this year summer school will be different than last year's...coz it's being held in the UK...more international participants are likely to attend plus this year its camping and not dorms which is really exciting! I dunno though...I best think about it soon though and make a firm decision!
Lol..I'm jus thinking this blog must be my longest to date!
I have been planning my jobs for this week...well tomorrow is going to be completing odd jobs...tuesday is results day...(aah!i just hope i pass!lol)..wednesday im going the O2 Wireless Festival in Hyde Park, London to see THE STROKES (I love jules and fab and nick!)lol...theyre so wicked...and I promised Loz I'd go to see them next time theyre in the UK! Whilst I'm in London I am hoping to meet up with Elle, a mate of mine from school. I haven't actually seen her since last year...omg..since my fashion show which has been about a year and a half now...wow! She kinda lives there now...which is kewl..doing a job related to the UN Reform. I can't wait to see her it will be great to catch up...plus she's working at the bar at the o2 fest so yeh groovy!
Hmm...not sure at the mo what else is planned? My birthday is on Sunday which I'm excited about it...I can't wait to be 19...I'll defo prefer it to being 18. I think Sunday is going to be a family get-together. I want to organise something with my friends I was thinking of going to a theme park...now thats what I call having fun! hehe...yeh maybe...
Anywayz...I think I may get a good night's sleep...its only 10.15pm which is way early for me.haha after all those days staying up til 3am/4am. It's catching up on me now!
Peace n love,
x

What a day...prep for exhibition!
|
Aaah...that's how felt today!
Lol..well this is a sorta account/moan of my day...
I got into college at about 10am..and first thing I did was look for my name on the exhibition boards...I found my space upstairs..on the wall. So I thought I'd better get on with painting it so I could head home and get on with my project...So I started painting the wall white...only for the plaster to crack off and end up on my roller...not good at all in terms of presentation. So went to go find Terry to ask him what I should do...oh and where is he...on break..lol as usual he loves his breaks!
So spoke to Katy who told me that the board I painted wasn't mine....Noooo....lol. She sed something like my name was put in the wrong place and that the other board was mine..lol. So I was confused and needed to tlk to Terry urgently. But thought I'd paint this other board which looked much nicer than the 1st board. After walking around in circles...I went back to check out the board..when there were a few girls by the board I had painted. I overheard them tlkn...so I asked her about the board..she was like that's my board and I painted it yesterday (it didnt look like it had been painted!lol) Anywayz...I explained that my name was on it and she was like "No it wasnt!"...blah blah..you know what..lol she pissed me off which was weird. I don't normally get pissed off that easy to be honest...but I think it was her attitude that stunk! Lol...she showed me how big her board was and sed well this piddley bit must be yours! I was like so you get all that space and I get a crappy space..lol. So told her I was going to find Terry...anywayz after waiting for about 45 mins to talk to Terry he told me that it wasn't my board!? He forgot to put the sticker in the right place..Grr..lol. He allocated me another board...and then a few mins later.. was like no that's not your board...I think he knew I was gettin more pissed off...coz all I wanted was my board!!
In the end I was moved to the lower ground room and finally got to work there. I was literally knackered though...painted 2 large boards which weren't even mine and then had to paint another one! Aaah. I got it done...painted it twice and then had to get some paper and A1 Porfolio sleeves to take home....lol then I had to detour coz I needed some inkjet transparencies so went in to town..got those...I was so tired...luggin a really heavy portfoilio and a bag fulla art junk. By the time I got home....I crashed out on my bed!
Then chilled for a bit...and then had dinner and started sorting my portfolio out...and jus typing this before I get back to it!
Good news! I found out when the Bournville Art Exhibition is 12/6/06(preview evening) - 19/6/06 (am only) It's open to everyone to view which is kewl...but we have a set day to inviligate our own work (just incase some1 nicks it..haha):D
So come along and check it out :D
Peace out for now...
